Wherever possible, I use maple and birch veneered plywood with a tough clear coat for the interior of my cabinets. Plywood is tougher, lighter and has less VOCs than particle core or MDF.
I use Blum soft close hinges and Movento soft close slides rated for many years of smooth motion and easy use.
Ever noticed how some cabinets don't age well? That's because they are made out of MDF, which splits and tears. I use hardwood doors and dovetailed drawer boxes that age beautifully.
Even when a project calls for paint I use hardwood for the face frames and trim. Poplar is an economical hardwood that ages beautifully, unlike MDF.
I use glued biscuits and slip tenons to join my cabinets and trim work. This makes strong cabinets and frames that can take a real beating.
My frames and trim are always tightly scribed to fit the contours of walls, floors and ceilings, leaving no gaps.
I always aim to blend my work seamlessly into existing moldings. Every notice how some cabinets feel out of place in a room. This might be because the cabinet maker didn't take the time to match the moldings. If needed I can machine matching moldings.
I know where all the lumber mills and suppliers are in Southern Ontario and how to hand select the best boards. I have the ability to dress and shape the wood to the project's unique requirements.
